Insight's Eating Disorder program (MERIT) offers services for those who struggle with food restriction, bingeing, purging, laxative abuse, compulsive over-exercising or poor body image. The goal of these services is to improve each individual's overall health and well-being.

At Insight, our MERIT program offers a range of services for the treatment of eating disorders. Our treatment team works with you to design an individualized treatment plan, including individual and group treatment, which best meets your unique needs. Options for intensive treatment include the MERIT Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or the MERIT Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).

We believe that the recovery from eating disorders occurs on many levels. First, reduction of symptoms and restoration of healthy weight is a priority. Once behavior change is underway, enhanced awareness of the underlying emotional issues that drive symptoms is necessary in order to facilitate a long-term recovery. Skills-based learning is crucial during this process to help individuals manage the intense emotions and daily challenges that can arise as they begin to navigate the world without the eating disorder. Similarly, medical nutrition therapy, medical management, and treatment of co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety, family problems, or substance abuse are essential.

We believe that treatment of eating disorders must ultimately be dealt with in the context of one's own community, while facing everyday responsibilities and stresses. Within these circumstances there is opportunity to understand each individual's interpersonal, academic, professional, and personal challenges. There is also the chance to involve significant others in the recovery process through couples, family therapy or multi-family therapy groups.
