Announcement of New Groups

Anxiety, Panic, and Fear Reduction Group

Thursday, Downtown Chicago                                      1:00pm - 4:00pm

This group will focus on effective ways to manage your anxiety, helping you feel calm and soothed. We will be doing light yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises as well as learning other skills to help reduce anxiety, panic, and fears. Please come dressed comfortably. The first portion of the group will be held in the exercise room on the 5th floor of 333 N. Michigan. All equipment will be provided.

Ecotherapy Experiential Group

Monday, Downtown Chicago                                        9:00am - 12:00pm

"As an umbrella term for nature-based methods of physical and psychological healing, ecotherapy represents a psychotherapy model that acknowledges the vital role of nature in the mental health of humans. Ecotherapy takes into account the latest scientific understanding of our universe and addresses the critical fact that people are intimately connected with, embedded in, and inseparable from the rest of nature. Grasping this fact shifts one's understanding of how to heal the human psyche and our current dysfunctional, even lethal, human-nature relationship."

Expressive Therapy Group

Friday, Downtown Chicago                                           5:30pm - 8:30pm

Expressive therapy combines traditional psychotherapy with the use of visual art, music, drama, poetry and/or movement together or independently to foster personal growth and healing. Most expressive therapists are masters level clinicians trained in expressive therapy as well as counseling or social work. This group will contain the use of each modality with an emphasis on drama and art therapy to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety as well as foster growth and insight. As with any expressive therapy, the process not the product is stressed in each session and group members are not required to have talent or training in any of the expressive arts used. Expressive therapies are used with a wide range of settings and age groups. This type of therapy is helpful for those who have difficulty expressing themselves verbally or those who already use the arts as a medium of expressing thoughts and feelings.

Grief & Loss Therapy

Tuesday, Downtown Chicago                                       1:00pm - 4:00pm

This group is for anyone who has experienced a loss of any kind, whether it be the loss of a loved one or friend, the loss of a job, a break-up, separation or divorce, a loss of health status as in the case of a diagnosis of a potentially life threatening illness, or loss of contact with friends or family due to a move or conflict. This group will allow members to process feelings in a supportive and respectful environment, and move through the stages of grief towards healing and recovery.

Substance Abuse Group

Monday, Downtown Chicago                                       5:30pm - 8:30pm

Insight's Substance Abuse group will provide a supportive, structured evening group to identify and address substance abuse issues. The group will focus on developing coping skills, understanding personal triggers and self-destructive patterns, reducing or stopping substance abuse, and preventing relapse. We will work to understand the biological, psychological, and social consequences of use and abuse and explore the personal impact of these consequences on functioning. We will review signs and symptoms that could lead to addiction. The program will utilize evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
